Friday August 29 2025: Stage 7 - Andorra La Vella > Cerler (188km, mountaintop finish)
The seventh stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España will be held on Friday, August 29th, and will take the peloton from Andorra La Vella to the ski resort of Cerler in the Spanish Pyrenees, covering a distance of 188 kilometers. This second consecutive mountain stage features an impressive 4,200 meters of elevation gain and four significant climbs, putting the mountaineering elite in the spotlight once again.
After the early start in Andorra, the first challenge immediately follows: the Port del Cantó, a 25-kilometer climb with an average gradient of 4.3%, which is particularly unpredictable in the first section, with gradients exceeding 8%. Once back on Spanish soil, the riders will encounter somewhat calmer terrain, but halfway through, another long climb awaits: the 23-kilometer Puerto de Creu de Perves, a typical climb with gradients between 3 and 4%.
Next up is the Coll d’Espina, known for its 5.9-kilometer final section at an average gradient of 6.5%, where fatigue will already play a major role. The stage finale revolves around the finish in Cerler: this final climb is 12.1 kilometers long at an average gradient of 5.9%, but has intermediate sections in double digits. Due to the challenging course and the positioning in the first week, the peloton will be significantly thinned out for the final climb, which will likely shake up the general classification once again.
In terms of scenarios, an attack from a select group of favorites is more likely than an early breakaway that holds its own, given the difficult profile and the control of the GC teams. The final climb offers opportunities for riders with explosiveness and endurance, and the significant elevation gain could result in significant time differences.
