Thursday Augsust 28 2025: Stage 6 - Olot > Pal (Andorra) (170.3km, mountaintop finish) 

The sixth stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España on Thursday, August 28th, marks the first challenging mountain stage of the race. The peloton will travel 170.3 kilometers from Olot in Catalonia to the ski resort of Pal in Andorra, with over 3,400 meters of elevation gain and a punishing final climb.

From the start in Olot, the riders will immediately dive into the Pyrenees, with the first obstacle being the Collada de Sentigosa (category 3, 11.3 km at 4.1%). This climb is ideal for early attackers. Next comes the long Collada de Toses (category 1, 24.8 km at 3.5%), a classic climb where endurance is more important than explosiveness. After the descent and a transition zone, the riders will be tested again in Andorra on the Alto de la Comella (category 2, 4.3 km at 7.5%). This short, steep climb increases the selective nature of the stage.

The finale is sharp: the final climb to Pal (category one, 9.7 km at an average gradient of 6.4%) is located near the Vallnord ski resort at an altitude of over 1,900 meters. Halfway through this climb, the gradient even reaches 9 to 10%, potentially widening the gap in the general classification. The fatigue from the long stage and previous climbs will take its toll, meaning it will be up to the GC riders and strong climbers to try and make the difference.

Possible scenarios include attacks from a thinned-out group of favorites or a strong breakaway taking the plunge on the first climbs. The difficulty of the course will ensure that time gaps are inevitable, resulting in the first crucial split in the general classification.
