Saturday August 30 2025: Stage 8 - Monzon Templario > Zaragoza (163km, sprint)
The eighth stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España will be held on Saturday, August 30th, between Monzón Templario and Zaragoza, covering a distance of approximately 163 kilometers. Although the route features few climbs, the stage includes approximately 1,200 meters of elevation gain, primarily due to gently rolling roads on the edge of the Pyrenees. The vast majority of the course is flat, with wide, straight roads that are particularly susceptible to wind.
The first eighty kilometers lead the peloton west past Huesca. This is followed by a descent to Zaragoza, where the riders will complete a city lap. The final four kilometers to the finish line are almost straight, although there is a sharp right turn 400 meters from the finish. This adds to the tension in the nervous approach to the finish. The finish line is at the Puerta del Carmen, in the historic center of Zaragoza.
Scenarios for this stage point to a bunch sprint, especially now that the course lacks a center of gravity and sprint teams can control the race. However, the open spaces can create wind-prone situations, such as echelons, which could surprise leaders or sprinters. Vigilance is therefore advised in the long, open stretches before Zaragoza.
All sprinters in the race will see their chance on a rare flat day, provided they remain well-positioned in the technical and lightning-fast final phase.
