Sunday September 14 2025: Stage 21 - Alalpardo > Madrid (108km, sprint)
The twenty-first and final stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España on Sunday, September 14th, is a festive 111.6-kilometer ride from Alalpardo to the center of Madrid. The course is classically flat and after approximately 65 kilometers it turns into the familiar city route: a 5.8-kilometer loop through the heart of Madrid, passing the Paseo del Prado, Gran Via, and finishing at Plaza de Cibeles.
The stage begins relaxed, with time for photos and celebrations for the GC winners. The race only gets serious in the finale, where sprint teams line up for the ultimate chance to win a stage in a sprint. The final phase on the wide Madrid circuit offers plenty of room for speed, but positioning is crucial. Bonus seconds are still up for grabs at the finish: 10, 6, and 4 for the top three, and seconds for the fastest riders in the intermediate sprint. Scenarios almost always point to a bunch sprint, with fast riders and their lead-outs deciding the outcome. It's the perfect opportunity for sprinters to seal the overall victory. Thanks to the flat approach and wide streets of Madrid, the classics sprinters and pure sprinters have every opportunity to be in the spotlight during this royal climax of the Vuelta.
