Satuday September 13 2025: Stage 20 - Robleda de Chavela > Bola del Mundo (164.8km, mountaintop finish) 

The twentieth stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España on Saturday, September 13th, is considered the ultimate mountain stage and perhaps the toughest day of this edition: 165.6 kilometers from Robledo de Chavela to the summit of the legendary Bola del Mundo, with an elevation gain of over 4,200 meters. The peloton faces a series of five climbs that could change the overall standings at the last minute.

The stage begins with the Alto de la Escondida (11 km at 3.7%) after thirteen kilometers, followed by the Puerto de la Paradilla (5.5 km at 5.5%) and then the Alto del León (7.4 km at 7.1%). The true finale begins with the Puerto de Navacerrada (6.9 km at 7.6%), a classic Vuelta climb that, for the first time, features a bonus sprint at the summit. After the descent, another challenging section presents itself: a second, longer climb to Navacerrada, followed by the closing Bola del Mundo.

The final climb, Bola del Mundo, is 12.5 to 13.1 kilometers long at an average gradient of 8.5% to 8.6%, with the dreaded final three kilometers where the average gradient exceeds 12% and peaks at 20%. The narrow, rough asphalt and the high altitude make this climb legendary: it's all-or-nothing for both GC riders and pure climbers.

Scenarios: a day for the strongest climbers and a battle for the podium, with the possibility of long-range attacks from Navacerrada and decisive attacks on the Bola del Mundo. Due to the challenging sequence of climbs and the short approach, it is expected that this will ultimately decide the Vuelta. Large time differences are possible and those who still have good legs can give it their all on the steep final kilometers.
