Friday September 12 2025: Stage 19 - Rueda > Guijuelo (161.9km, sprint/ break)

The nineteenth stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España will take the peloton on Friday, September 12th, covering 161.9 kilometers from Rueda to Guijuelo. This stage is considered one of the last promising days for the sprinters, as the course is flat by Spanish standards, with approximately 1,400 to 1,500 meters of elevation gain spread over long, gentle slopes.

The route largely traverses vast plains, without categorized climbs or mountain stages. The main drawbacks lie in the consistently gently undulating profile and the fact that the final three kilometers to the finish line feature a false flat of approximately 2 to 4%. As a result, not all pure sprinters will automatically be favorites: power sprinters or strong classics sprinters will have a particular advantage here.

The race scenario points to a controlled stage by the sprint teams, with the intermediate sprint after 103 kilometers in Salamanca. However, there's a risk that a large breakaway could put the peloton at a disadvantage, especially if control is lacking or the wind plays tricks. The finish in Guijuelo is at the highest point of the day, making the final kilometers treacherously tough for overtired legs.

This stage is expected to result in a bunch sprint with a slightly thinned-out group. Timing and positioning are essential on the uphill straight, where the final sections reward the fastest legs, but power and stamina will be decisive.
