Saturday September 6th 2025: Stage 14 - Avilés > Alto de la Farrapona (135km, mountaintop finish)

The fourteenth stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España, on Saturday, September 6th, marks the conclusion of this grueling Asturian mountain doubleheader. In just 135.9 kilometers, the riders will face approximately 3,805 meters of elevation gain, with the legendary Alto de la Farrapona as the final climb.

The route starts in Avilés and is relatively flat for the first few dozen kilometers, creating a chance for an early breakaway. The first categorized climb is the Alto Tenebreo (category three, 5.7 km at 6.2%), followed by the Puerto de San Lorenzo (category one, 9.4 km at 8.8%) with 44 kilometers to go. This is often the first test for the GC riders, as this climb is long and steep enough to cause damage to the peloton. After a descent, there's a short transition to the final climb: the Alto de la Farrapona (category one, 16.9 km at an average gradient of 5.9%). The final section of this climb is particularly challenging: the last six kilometers average a gradient of over 10%. The gap between the favorites can widen considerably here, especially if an early attack is launched. The summit finish makes this stage ideal for GC riders and climbers, although attackers who break away early can sometimes gain some space.

The scenarios are primarily a battle between early breakaway riders and the strong riders in the GC. The combination of the short distance and the challenging final section allows for explosive attacks, and the GC could be thoroughly reshuffled once again.
