Wednesday September 3rd 2025: Stage 11 - Bilbao > Bilbao (157.4km, hilly stage)

The eleventh stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd, in and around Bilbao, covering a distance of approximately 157 kilometers. The route is typical of the Basque Country: constantly up and down, with no fewer than seven categorized climbs that are rarely very long, but often steep and explosive.

Early in the stage, the riders will face the Alto de Laukiz and Alto de Sollube, third-category climbs, as well as the Balcón de Bizkaia and the Alto de Morga. These are primarily intended to split the peloton and create an early breakaway. However, the focus of the stage lies in the second half. There, they will face two climbs of the Alto del Vivero (4.3 km at 8.1%), a climb that often leads to significant groupings. The ultimate deciding factor, however, is the Alto de Pike (2.1 km at 9.4%), with its summit 7.5 kilometers from the finish. After this steep climb, a technically winding descent back to Bilbao follows.

In terms of scenarios, strong breakaway riders are expected to have a strong chance, as the challenges will pile up and the peloton will be difficult to control. Nevertheless, the GC riders will have to be on their toes to avoid losing time, especially considering their position in the second week of the race. The finale after the Alto de Pike is nerve-wracking and could produce a spectacular race, with explosive attacks and small time gaps among the favorites.

This stage is short, intense, and dynamic: ideal terrain for punchers, attackers, and GC riders with race insight.
