Saturday July 19th 2025: Stage 14 - Luchon-Superbagnères (182.3 km, mountain top-finish)
The fourteenth stage is a classic Pyrenees stage from Pau to the mythical finish at Luchon-Superbagnères, for the first time in the Tour since 1989. The route has around 5,000 metres of elevation gain, making it one of the toughest stages of this Tour. From the start in Pau, the riders are immediately confronted with the mountainous terrain. Early in the stage, there are a number of smaller cols, ideal for attackers to set up an early breakaway.
The focus of the day is in the second half, with a series of tough climbs. The Col de Peyresourde (13.2 km at 7%) is the first major test, followed by the Col d’Azet (7.4 km at 8.3%). Both climbs will further thin out the peloton. After a technical descent, the final climb to Luchon-Superbagnères follows: 18.5 kilometres at an average of 6.3%, with steeper passages in the middle section. This climb is long and gruelling, and offers plenty of opportunities for attacks from GC riders.
The scenario of the day will depend on the course of the race and the weather conditions. In the Pyrenees, the weather can change quickly, which adds to the tension. The favourites will test each other here, and those who are not in top form can lose a lot of time. The arrival at Superbagnères is heroic and offers a beautiful setting for a royal stage. Here, the classification will be rearranged again and the differences can be big.
