Thursday March 19th 2026 - Grand Prix de Denain: Denain - Denain (200.4 km)
The 2026 GP de Denain – Porte du Hainaut should again offer a fast, selective battle on northern French cobbles, likely ending in a reduced sprint from a hardened bunch or small group.
The race remains a loop starting and finishing in Denain, covering roughly 200 km on mainly flat roads through the Valenciennois and Cambrésis. Early laps around Denain are straightforward and usually controlled, before the peloton heads into a larger circuit where the cobbled sectors are concentrated in the second half of the day. As in recent editions, around 13 pavé sectors add up to just under 23 km of cobblestones, several of them familiar from Paris–Roubaix and capable of splitting the field in crosswinds or aggressive riding. The final cobbled sector near Abscon lies roughly ten kilometres from the line, leaving a fast, exposed run‑in where any late attackers must hold off organized chase trains.
With the cobbles relatively short and the overall elevation modest, sprinter‑puncheurs and robust classics riders are favoured over pure climbers. WorldTour and strong ProTeams bring well‑drilled lead‑outs, but the pavé and possible wind mean positioning and depth of support will be as decisive as raw speed. A breakaway can form early, yet history suggests the major teams tighten control once the key sectors begin, paring the front group down to perhaps 30–50 riders. From there, the most plausible outcome is a reduced sprint featuring powerful all‑rounders such as Jordi Meeus, Arnaud De Lie, Tibor del Grosso and António Morgado, though a well‑timed late move on or just after the final pavé could still upset the script
