Friday May 22nd – Giro d’Italia 2026 stage 13: Alessandria → Verbania (189 km)
Stage 13 runs from Alessandria to Verbania on the shores of Lake Maggiore. Most of the route is flat, with two short climbs in the finale that shape the outcome. After the final ascent the race heads downhill before a flat run‑in to the finish.
The opening 150 kilometres are entirely flat as the race moves north through the Po Valley. The route passes Novara and continues toward the lake region. No categorised climbs appear in this phase.
The finale begins with the ascent to Bieno, 2.4 kilometres at 5.5%. Shortly afterwards the riders tackle the climb to Ungiasca, officially 4.7 kilometres at 7.1%, though effectively 3.5 kilometres at around 8.2%. These two ascents are the key points of the stage.
From the top of Ungiasca 13.3 kilometres remain. The first half is downhill, followed by a flat section along the lake toward the finish in Verbania. The final kilometres use wide roads close to the shoreline.
This stage suits puncheurs and fast finishers who can handle short climbs. The combination of a flat opening, two late ascents and a descent toward the line allows for multiple possible outcomes.
