Tuesday May 26th – Giro d’Italia 2026 stage 16: Bellinzona → Carì (113 km)

Stage 16 is a short but demanding mountain stage in Switzerland. From the start in Bellinzona the route rises gradually through the Ticino Valley toward Biasca. After roughly twenty kilometres the riders enter a 22-kilometre circuit that is covered twice.

The circuit features two climbs. The first is the ascent to Torre, 4.7 kilometres at 5.6%. A short descent leads into the climb to Leontica, 3 kilometres at 8.5%. After descending back to the valley floor, the loop is repeated a second time.

After leaving the circuit the race follows the valley upstream toward Faido. The final climb to Carì begins here: 11.7 kilometres at an average gradient of 7.9%. The last three kilometres average around eight percent, with maximum gradients reaching thirteen percent in the final kilometre.

From the base of the final climb the road rises continuously to the finish. The stage is compact in length but includes several consecutive climbing phases that can influence the general classification. Who is strongest after the final restday of this Giro?
