Wednesday May 20th – Giro d’Italia 2026 stage 11: Porcari (Paper District) → Chiavari (195 km)
Stage 11 leaves Tuscany and heads for the Ligurian coast over a 195‑kilometre route from Porcari to Chiavari. The first half is largely flat along the Tyrrhenian shoreline, while most of the climbing is concentrated in the second half. The finale strings together several classified ascents before the run back to the coast.
From Porcari the peloton moves toward the sea and follows the coast in the direction of La Spezia. The terrain is mostly regular in this phase, with only minor hills that do not influence the GC contenders. This section offers room for a breakaway to establish itself before the race turns inland.
The climbing begins with the ascent to La Foce, 2.6 kilometres at 6.8%, followed shortly after by the climb to Pignone, 2 kilometres at 7.2%. These are followed by the Passo del Termine, around 7 kilometres at roughly five percent, which marks the start of the hilly section that shapes the stage. From the top, the route continues almost immediately into the next ascent.
The Colle di Guaitarola is 9.7 kilometres long at an average gradient of 6.3%. After the summit, a short transition leads into the descent toward Sestri Levante and back to the Ligurian coast. Instead of heading directly to Chiavari, the route turns inland once more for an additional loop.
The Colla dei Scioli is 5.7 kilometres at 6.4%, with the final kilometre approaching double‑digit gradients. From the top, the road drops into the Entella valley before rising again toward Cogorno, where the bonus sprint is placed on a 4.6‑kilometre climb at around 6.7%. From the crest there are 12.6 kilometres remaining, roughly half downhill and half flat along the coast to the finish in Chiavari.
The profile of stage 11 suits attackers and puncheurs. The flat opening, followed by a sequence of medium‑length climbs and a lumpy finale, creates multiple points where the strong climbers without GC ambitions can take their chance.
