The 2026 Volta a Catalunya unfolds from March 23-29 across seven stages and 1,100 km of Catalonia’s demanding terrain, serving as a key WorldTour opener for climbers ahead of the Ardennes and Grand Tours. Organizers have organized the toughest edition since 2018, with over 40 km of categorized climbs averaging 7% on the final days of the race.

The race launches in Calella on Stage 1, a 180 km circuit along the coast with undulating roads and short ascents designed to fracture the peloton early. Stage 2 introduces La Creueta, an 11 km mountain at 8.1% in the Pyrenean foothills, likely prompting the first general classification shake-up. Stages 3-5 shift to Lleida’s broader valleys for transitional terrain with punchy finishes in Falset and La Pobla de Segur, where technical roads could play decisive roles.

Stage 6 stands as the biggest: 160 km from Vielha to Port Ainé, including the Port de Cabús (12 km at 6.5%) en route to an 18 km final ascent averaging 6.9% with ramps to 20%. Stage 7 closes in Barcelona with the traditional key-stage at Montjuic.
