Tuesday April 28th until Sunday 3th of May: Tour de Romandie - Villars sur Glâne - Leysin (851.9 km)
The 2026 Tour de Romandie (28 April–3 May) offers a compact but demanding week across western Switzerland, built around a technical prologue, three mid‑mountain days, and two decisive climbing stages. The race totals just over 850 kilometres with more than 14,000 metres of elevation, being one of the 7 Major Tours (big one week stage-races) in professional cycling.
The week opens with a short 3.1 km prologue in Villars‑sur‑Glâne, a typical Romandie opener: fast downhill acceleration followed by a sharp 1.3 km climb averaging 5%, including an 800‑metre ramp at 7%. Small gaps, but meaningful for the GC hierarchy.
Stage 1 (Martigny–Martigny, 171 km) loops through the Rhône valley, using a mix of valley roads and steep side‑climbs that can fracture the race if ridden aggressively. It’s not a summit finish, but the accumulated elevation (≈2180 m) makes it selective.
Stage 2 (Rue–Vucherens, 173 km) is the most irregular of the mid‑week stages, with nearly 2750 metres of climbing. The final 25 km include repeated short climbs that favour punchy climbers and late attackers.
Stage 3 (Orbe–Orbe, 176 km) is another rolling day with more than 2200 metres of elevation, but without a major final climb. It’s the least decisive GC stage on paper, though crosswinds and attrition can still shape the race.
The weekend is where the GC is won.
Stage 4 (Broc–Charmey, 149 km) packs 3580 metres of climbing into a short distance. The repeated climbs around Charmey are steep and sustained, and the final 25 km are particularly hard. Expect the first major GC gaps here.
Stage 5 (Lucens–Leysin, 178 km) ends with the summit finish in Leysin after a long, high‑altitude climbing day (≈3480 m). This is the queen stage and the decisive showdown for the overall.
