The riders will set off from the heart of Picardy and head west towards Normandy, passing through a varied landscape of open fields, small villages and wooded areas along the way. This is a stage where the peloton must be constantly alert, as the terrain invites attacks and the weather can be unpredictable.

After a relatively calm approach, the first serious obstacles begin to pile up in the second part of the stage. The Côte Jacques Anquetil (3.6 km at 3.6%) at 128 kilometres is the first categorised climb of the day and serves as a warm-up for what is to come. Next comes the Côte de Belbeuf, a short but tough climb of 1.3 kilometres at 9.1%. This climb can thin out the peloton a bit, especially if the pace is high. Then the Côte de Bonsecours (0.9 km at 7.2%) awaits, which is mainly known for the monument to Jean Robic, winner of the Tour in 1947.

The finale is particularly challenging with the Côte de la Grand’Mare (1.8 km at 5%) and the Rampe Saint-Hilaire, a steep wall of 770 meters at no less than 12%. This last climb is only five kilometers from the finish and offers punchers and attackers a great opportunity to make the difference. The technical and winding roads towards Rouen make it extra difficult to make up a deficit, making positioning crucial. The finish in Rouen itself is slightly uphill, which makes it even harder for tired sprinters. This stage is ideally suited for strong attackers and punchers, while GC riders must stay sharp to not lose precious seconds in the final.
