Wednesday April 8th 2026: Terneuzen - Schoten (205.2 km)
The Scheldeprijs 2026 will start for the ningth time in Terneuzen, Zeeland, close to the Belgian border. The cycling festival will start on the Stadhuisplein, after which the peloton will head for Zuid-Beveland via the Westerscheldetunnel. In the open Zeeland landscape, the riders will immediately have to deal with the wind, which can cause echelons early in the race.
After passing through villages such as Heinkenszand, Kruiningen and Krabbendijke, the race reaches the Belgian border at Essen after about 140 kilometres. The route then heads towards Schoten via Kalmthout, Wuustwezel, Hoogstraten and Brecht, among others.
A decisive final awaits in Schoten: four local laps of 16.9 kilometres. This loop combines narrow roads around the centre with wider sections through Wijnegem and Schilde. A regular deciding factor is the 1,700-metre-long cobblestone strip, where the peloton is often stretched out. The passage along the Albert Canal – 6.5 km from the finish – can again cause unrest in the wind.
The finish of the Scheldeprijs 2025 is traditionally on the Churchilllaan in Schoten, a wide road that is ideal for a mass sprint. With a straight final of over 1.5 kilometers, it promises to be a battle between the fastest men in the peloton again.
